Flat Panel Monitor Installation

Picked up an HP f2105 this week. Works great....happy with it so far. Used analog inputs from one PC, and digital from the other. Setting up digital turned out to be a bit of a problem. The monitor displayed a "signal out of range" error message, and no desktop. Then it would go into sleep mode 10 seconds later. Luckily I could use the analog mode, and change cables on this system to finally see the OS come up. This system was set-up at 800x600, at 85 Hz. The monitor didn't seem to support this mode if connected via the digital DVI cable; but worked fine on the analog connection. I brought the Hz down to 75, and shutdown again so I could switch back to the DVI cable. This worked. It made me wonder what I would have done if I didn't have a video card that supported the analog signal, or had a second monitor. Without being able to see, no one can adjust the OS display settings to the correct values.

I think I just got lucky.
